What is Pierce's Disease?

Pierce’s Disease is a bacterial infection, which is spread by bugs that feed on grapevines, particularly the "glassy winged sharpshooter." Grapevines that become infected with PD can quickly become sick and die.

(1) Understand how Xylella fastidiosa moves, and the patterns of its movement in systemic and nonsystemic plant hosts using microscopy; (2) Determine the fate of Xylella fastidiosa in weeds, cover crops, and adjacent vegetation common to vineyards of California's San Joaquin Valley.
